Philly marathon 11', MS KarmaStriders. How was yours ?

Well Mother nature could not have dialed up a better day for the thousands of runners and spectators today at the Phila marathon. All that I can say is that today provided a thorough cross section  Including; Tent confusion as the good people at the marathon FORGOT to provide us w/ our tent.  Special thanks to the dairy foundation for stepping up and helping the NMSS and the MS team for staying the course.…

bucks county marathon 11/20/11

Bucks county marathon 3:41

The plan was to be conservative for the first 20 miles by running 8:15 minimiles then try to pick up the last 10k and hopefully break 3:30 in my dreams I'd break 3:20. Well my legs had their own plans - go for broke. I blame the ACDC being played as we waited in…

Baggo Tourney To Stop MS Wrap up.

There's something warm + fuzzy about an Autumn, backyard party w/ good ppl, crisp autumn air, a keg of Birch beer, or something like that,.

For sure was having flashbacks of PSU + tailgaiting.

Thanks + great job Ms KarmaStrider Rachel Spoonhower. for bringing together a fun bunch for a baggo tournament fund raiser to help Stop MS.

Thanks to the many members of the Bryn Mawr running club + all otghers.  An event is really only as good as the guests who are there.  There…

My first (and last) "DNF" (DNF=Did not Finish)

Endurolyte knowledge, right from the source. A reply to a runner.

Dear J,

Thank you for contacting Hammer Nutrition.

A more detailed usage suggestion we like to give is to take 1 capsule per 50 pounds of bodyweight per hour as a starting point.  You can certainly increase this amount if necessary.  Proper electrolyte supplementation becomes more important the longer the duration of your run so in a 24 hour event you'll probably notice the need for Endurolytes more than on a 4 hour run and you may find you need a few more than you…

A few training scheds

Here are a few training schedules that I have used along the way.

You will simply need to adjust timing backwards from event date.

As each athlete is unique, it is always a good idea to consult a trusted coach for peace of mind and a custom tailored plan.  There are, however some good free resources as coaches, although worthy, usually cost $.

10 week first time half marathon sched.…

NERRC 21k Run/Race

This is a no frills race that I have soft spot in heart for. well I did anyway till I ran past the falls point bridge and didn't see any volunteers so kept running and took the first wrong turn in a race ever. I was not feeling the magic today (could blame the phillies game last night but that's too easy) by mile 12ish I was pretty burned out and was starting to jog it in. then i remembered the pep talk we gave to my 7 year old yesterday before his soccer game 'winning doesn't matter as much…

Innaugural CGi Unite half marathon

Well the endurance event gods smiled on the good folks of CGI Sunday, as runners and voluntters were all treated to near perfect 13.1 conditions. It was as good as ever to see the many many farmiliar faces and even get to meet some new ones. Especially fellow KarmaStrider Andrew Scott from waaay up in North Jersey.

Quick eval:

-Venue- Rutgers University New Brunswick. Just a hop, skip and a jump from both Philly and NYC areas.

Extremely aesthetic and not…

Unite Half Marathon 4/18

sorry wanted to share (and hoped you all would share yours too)

I got guilted into joining a charity team for my work last winter as they trained for the new Unite Half Marathon in New Brunswick, NJ. In a fit of optimism I gave myself a finish time goal of 1:35, which was a little faster than my PR from 1997 but I figured I might as well have a good goal to keep me going this winter. So winter came and went and I ran well and hit the track regularly. Race day came and I woke up before the… Continue

Chi Running Review.

5 years ago after catching the running bug that so many new runners hear about, I hit a bit of a crossroads with my new found hobby. Whereas I had hit a few running / endurance goals, I had quite a few more in mind but seemed to be at an all around plateau. Physical, mental, spiritual,,,,,

Well. what to do ? Do I just accept the level that I had achieved - 1 Ten-miler, a few 5k's and a half marathon, or do I look for further inspiration ? I… Continue

Race review: Las Vegas R + R marathon. Half distance.

Pre race

The KarmaStriders and PTC-er BrotherpPaul ended his 09' race calender today with the Las Vegas Rock and Roll marathon, half distance. The trip started off of the WRONG foot as, after running through the Phila Int'l airport like OJ in the old rent a car commercial, I missed my 7 am flight by a mere 3 minutes. UGH. But it's right there, I can see the plane ! No dice.

So a swift direct flight became a 3.5 hr longer flight w/ a stopover in Houston. Oh… Continue
