Upper Dublin Sprint Tri 2012

At it again!

So far this year, I've focused on weight loss, some swim lessons, and I joined a Tri Club Class at the Y.  Importantly, I finally broke a weight loss barrier that had been a hurdle for a dozen years... and I'm so happy about that!  I haven't done many events this year, and after a long break, I tackled my first tri of the 2012 season...…

Devilman 2012. AKA Gnat-man. Not quite sure what to think. More than a race report.

One of the few local-ish, early season races that I had not yet at all attended, is Devil-man. That is, until this past weekend, Saturday, 5-5-2012.

For some reason, Devil-man has just never appealed to me, while reports of the swim and course in general have always been less than favorable.

- Dave M. WON overall.

(I'll Never forget asking Dave what was…

The Disposable Heroes Project

Whats up MyTri folks.  Hopefully everybody is well into their training plans for the year and having fun.  For me, i am training for my first 140.6 and things are goin pretty well.  In early March, i locked up the brakes and wound up with a dislocated shoulder which sidelined me (sort of) for a week or two.  as i mounted my comeback, i was struck with gratitude for the ability just to participate.  over the past few years, i have joined with Paul in fundraising for the MS society through his…

OWS in SJ

Looks like ETA coach open water swims start next Saturday at lake ockinickon. Supposed to be a big upgrade from sludgy lake Wenonah. He has a fb page setup with details. I'll definitely be making it down there..

Shamrocking to stop MS Race report.

Race report from our own Celeste Z,

She Shamrocked last weekend and it sounds like a super run.
WAY TO GO !1

Shamrock went a lot better than I had expected! It's a great race and I highly recommend it. The swag bag was one of the best from any race: the usual tech shirt with your bib, and after the race we also got the really cool medal (it has a beer opener on the bottom! Sooo cool!), finisher's hat & a nice hoody…

Signs of Spring

1) A flock of robins in my yard;

2) A carpet of purple crocuses in front of a house I drove by today;

3) Looking at my clock earlier & earlier & noticing: HEY, I could be riding by now!

4) NEW RUNNING SHOES TODAY!!

Here Goes Nothing... 2,012 miles in 2012!!!

Alright, I'm going to do it. I've been thinking about it and wondering if I would regret going public with this goal... but it's time to shout it from the mountain!

My goal for the New Year is to log 2,012 miles in an effort to Stop MS. Miles count towards this goal as long as I power the mile myself - running, walking, cycling, elliptical... it counts! I'd like to have as high of a running percentage as I can towards this goal... this is going to be quite a challenge!

Anyone…

Philly Marathon 2011 - My 6th Marathon Victory!!

What an awesome race! I gave it everything I had: physically, mentally, emotionally I was 100% engaged in the experience. I have been working on a long term goal of breaking 4:00:00 in a marathon for over a year. I wasn't necessarily aiming to do it in Philly, but lined up with the 4:00 pacers just in case it was "my day." I've been dealing with some issues that have been holding me back from meeting the goal, and after my last marathon attempt (first DNF... dropped out at 23.8 which was…

My Very First Half Marathon

HPIM0740%5B1%5D.JPG

I started running in July of 2010 and ran my very first race, a 5K, 4 months later with my trainer and friend, Ron Hetzel, by my side. It is hard to believe that race was over a year ago now, and that I finished my very first half marathon this past Sunday. I am so proud of myself...I…

El Tour de Tucson 2011

Pushing yourself... makes you a better person, right?

Yes.  I believe that.

It's quite the challenge, though, when you set a goal that you don't make... for whatever reason.

About a year and a half ago, I set a goal to complete El Tour de Tucson, a 109-mile (which turned into a 111-mile) bike race around the perimeter of Tucson AZ. Long story short... the day came and went... and I completed a whopping 75 miles.  HOWEVER... Here's the thing...

I…

Philly marathon 11', MS KarmaStriders. How was yours ?

Well Mother nature could not have dialed up a better day for the thousands of runners and spectators today at the Phila marathon. All that I can say is that today provided a thorough cross section  Including; Tent confusion as the good people at the marathon FORGOT to provide us w/ our tent.  Special thanks to the dairy foundation for stepping up and helping the NMSS and the MS team for staying the course.…

bucks county marathon 11/20/11

Bucks county marathon 3:41

The plan was to be conservative for the first 20 miles by running 8:15 minimiles then try to pick up the last 10k and hopefully break 3:30 in my dreams I'd break 3:20. Well my legs had their own plans - go for broke. I blame the ACDC being played as we waited in…

Florida Ironman Nov. 5th, 2011- 1st Ironman

Florida Ironman November 5th, 2011-  FIRST ONE!!

I think the day that my Ironman journey started was last November in 2010, when I registered for my first Florida Ironman.  The months after, I was seriously contemplating on what the heck I had done, did I really think that I could do an Ironman??  I had just started swimming last October…so I knew I had a looooong way to go before I could swim 2.4 miles…in the Gulf of Mexico no less!

I am sure that…

'The Race' by D.H. Groberg

The Race

"Quit, give up, you're beaten"

They shout at you and plead

"There's just too much against you

This time you can't succeed".

And as I start to hang my head

In front of failures face

My downward fall is broken by

The memory of a race

And hope refills my weakened will

As I recall that scene

Or just the thought of that short race

Rejuvenates my being

Childrens race, young boys… Continue

Winter Runs

So the first run with temps in the 30's since last Winter. I forgot (& regretted that I forgot) that just because it's cold doesn't mean you don't need sunglasses! I also forgot just how slow you feel with extra clothes on. I guess it just makes you appreciate that first day in spring when you just throw on a pair of shorts & a top & head out!
