Refueling After Exercise
Dorothy Hamburg
If you participate in high-intensity workouts or exercise that lasts more than 60 minutes refueling your body post-exercise is very important for recovery.
I think the following tips regarding food & liquid replacement are helpful.
Enjoy your workouts!
•
Understand why your body needs refueling.
During exercise your body breaks down tissues and uses energy (primarily…

Seasons Greeting Everyone,
I just want to toss this out there to all the athletes in the area who are looking for an early season race or for those who are thinking of doing a triathlon, but are a bit weary about an open water swim.
I'm the new Race Director for a local triathlon/duathlon in south Jersey (just a couple miles over the Walt Whitman and Com. Barry Br.). Since it's sooooo early in the season we will be doing a pool swim (15 laps/375yds), a 14.5 mile bike (most…

Hey there everyone!!!! Hope your holidays are shaping up well;) So, I've made
the decision not to race next season since I will be concentration on event
production. I am the new race director for a small race April 25th in West
Deptford, New Jersey...more information to follow! But as far as my beautiful
Lucielle(my bike's name) is concerned she desperately needs to find an owner who
will take her out and show her a good time. Here are the stats:
Giant…

After running my first few half marathons this year -- and one earlier this month-- a 5K seemed like a walk in the park so I decided to run with some of my friends from bootcamp
and my goal - since it was such a short run - was to try to pick up my speed a little. I did it, carving a little more than four minutes off my best 5K time so far. …

I should start off by telling everyone that I am certainly a big fan of food. I used to own and operate a catering company. I also happen to consider food and the kitchen to be the hub of home and family.
Food is one of life's pleasures and should never become a chore or major obstacle.
6 years ago, while adapting to an endurance lifestyle, I was fortunate enough to have a conversation with an ER doctor who shares our zeal for athletics and training. He and I have a similar…

Odd..I have fallen into a valley after finishing my Half Marathon; actually I've been this way ever since I completed my 1st Oly in September. My enthusiasm and zeal dropped then climbed again for the Half..then it slid back down to rock bottom. Both events took an emotional toll on me because I was afraid and didn't believe I could finish..but I did & the feeling was unbelievable. I remember walking on clouds for at least a week. And what happenened afterwards: little interest in running,…

Pre race
The KarmaStriders and PTC-er BrotherpPaul ended his 09' race calender today with the Las Vegas Rock and Roll marathon, half distance. The trip started off of the WRONG foot as, after running through the Phila Int'l airport like OJ in the old rent a car commercial, I missed my 7 am flight by a mere 3 minutes. UGH. But it's right there, I can see the plane ! No dice.
So a swift direct flight became a 3.5 hr longer flight w/ a stopover in Houston. Oh…

Time to lay out the plans…
Your thinking “its the holidays! What could I possibly do for training??? Turkey Carving is some of the best deltoid training there is! This will make you more stable on the bike and resist fatigue longer! Don’t miss the opportunity. Actually I am kidding. Thanksgiving marks the beginning on the holidays and the beginning of the long difficult road to start training again. I myself, have fallen victim to the following scenario before. First its time to…
