Tonight I was working my normal EMS shift at Goshen Fire Company. We got dispatched for possible CVA/Stroke patient. When we got to the scene the patient was a man who had MS. Without violating any more HIPAA laws then I may already have I will say that it was an eye opener. I am used to my mom who despite physical limitations, is still fairly healthy. She uses a walker (when she's not too stubborn around the house to forget it) most of the time with some wheel chair usage for longer trips.…

I am embarking on a journey I have not begun since I was 9 years old...beginning to be a runner. After my boyfriend and I flipped over a guardrail over a month ago I have not been able to do any physical activity until today. I made a slight attempt at not even a run but a jog to see how much (or little) my back would be able to handle. I was able to do about a mile without stopping. Not great from past standards but better then expected. I need to step it up because in 5.5 weeks I will be…

Here are the 1st 6 weeks worth during my ironman training.
It starts VERY simply which is why I think it will work.
I, myself, am practically starting from scratch now so I will be following the same sched but with swimming and biking as well.
HR stands for heart rate.
1-Time trial (45 min.) Warm up 15 min, 30 min HR 145.
2-30 min flat terrain. HR 145.
3-Time trial (50 min.) Warm up 20 min, setting in @ 12 min mile. 30 min HR 145.
4-Endurance Easy run flat and rolling terrain. HR 145.
5-Time trial (60 min.) warm up 30 min 12 min mile pace. 30 min HR 145.
6-Endurance (45 min.) Easy run rolling terrain. 145 HR.
7-Time Trial (45 min.) warm up 15 min @ 150 HR. 30 min. 150 HR.
8-Endurance (30 min.) Easy on rolling terrain.
9-Endurance (75 min.) Easy on flat terrain HR approx 145. Try to consume fluids and some carbs 60 mins into run.
10-Drills (30 min.) Easy approx 245 HR. 3X30 sec pick ups at end of easy run. Concentrate on keeping upper body (arms, neck, shoulders, relaxed) Pick ups are just starting slow and increasing speed for 30 secs. be sure to recover between.)
11-Run long (90 min.)Easy run, rolling terrain HR 145. Be sure to consume fluids and carbs 60 mins into run. Slow down if you need to on uphills to keep HR at 145.
12-Run drills (45 min.) Easy run flat terrain HR 145. Concentrate on quick leg turnover.
Maybe we could get some of these in together. I am often out in malvern general area and as I mentioned, this is exactly what I will be doing as I am to pace a half marathon next month.
Let me know.
